At an official ceremony organized by the Bulgarian Road Construction Chamber, this year’s awards were presented in the categories “Construction Supervision – Road Construction and Facilities,” “Designer – Road Construction and Facilities” and “Engineer of the Year” for 2025.

Engineer Kristina Ivancheva from European Roads AD received the prestigious award, which was presented to her by the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Ivanov in recognition of her exceptional contribution to the implementation of one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the country – the Vidin-Botevgrad high-speed road.

“This award is a recognition for our entire team. The project was extremely complex—we worked in very difficult terrain, under time pressure, and had to deal with many unforeseen situations. But every day I saw how the people around me gave their all to turn this road from a project into real infrastructure that will give new prospects to the Northwest,” said Eng. Ivancheva.

“This award is extremely important not only for Ms. Ivancheva, but also for the entire team at the Ministry and the Road Infrastructure Agency, as this was one of the key projects completed this year that are of great importance for the overall development of the Northwest region,” said Minister Ivanov at the award ceremony.
Ms. Ivancheva is the manager of Lot 2 of the new I-1 (E-79) road between the town of Mezdra and the village of Lyutidol, covering a complex 13-kilometer section with extremely challenging engineering structures. The project includes over 1,500,000 m³ of earth and rock excavations, seven bridge structures, two tunnels, three road junctions on two levels, and a 1,000-meter-long viaduct. The project includes over 1,500,000 m³ of earth and rock excavations, seven bridge structures, two tunnels, three two-level road junctions, work in close proximity to populated areas and active traffic.

Lot 2 is considered the most complex section of the entire high-speed road, and its implementation required the daily mobilization of equipment, resources, and expert capacity from the entire consortium implementing the project. It includes the Bulgarian companies European Roads, Eterna Construction, and the Slovak company Vahostav. European Roads is the lead partner in the consortium, and Eng. Ivancheva serves as both the consortium manager and the company’s site manager.
